Meals at Home provides two meals a day: one hot and one cold. All food from our hospital kitchens is low salt, low fat, and low cholesterol. Also available are medically prescribed diets such as diabetic, cardiac, renal, or salt free.
“My meals were as important as my medicine.” – Meals at Home client
Where do the meals come from?
These nutritious meals are supplied by St. Francis Hospital, NorthShore University HealthSystem (Evanston Hospital), Three Crowns Park, Jilly’s Cafe, and Curt’s Cafe. During the winter season, a soup and sandwich combination is available from Capt’n Nemo’s.
Caring volunteers deliver meals Monday through Saturday any time between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm. If requested, meals are delivered on holidays, unless the holiday falls on a Sunday.
What is the cost of the meals?
Cost of the meals is determined by income. Currently, the regular cost per day starts at $8.70 for two hospital-provided meals. Reduced fees are also available using a sliding scale. Approximately 60% of our clients qualify for reduced fees. To determine your cost, contact our office at 847-332-2678 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
What other services are offered?
A grocery shopping service is available to our clients. Our volunteers will shop for a variety of foods, toiletries, and paper products for the client. The client must be receiving meals at least two to three times per week. Other than the cost of the groceries, there is no fee for this service.
Meals at Home offers a Friendly Visit Program at no fee to those who receive meals. Clients may choose to have visits either in-home or by telephone. Those who have participated in this program say they have made great new friends.
